Grocery stores can be overwhelming if you don’t know what you’re looking for, what your healthiest options are, or where to find them.

This is why so many of us eat the same things over and over again and get caught up in unhealthy food ruts. Sometimes it’s just easier to reach for the most familiar items, even if they’re not the healthiest.

Believe me, I’ve been there. These days, though, I love grocery shopping, and I’m pretty good at making it fun for other people, too.

If you’re experiencing grocery store intimidation as you set out on your new dietary adventures, or if you just find yourself wandering the aisles lost and confused, I can help. We’ll grab a cart at your favorite grocery store and tour the aisles together.  I’ll show you where to find the best foods to meet your nutritional needs and give you some tips for making your grocery shopping excursions fun, efficient, and budget-friendly.

While you may think that nutritious eating is all about restriction and deprivation, a healthy dietary change can actually open you up to a whole new world of delicious meal and snack options. But, of course, you have to know where to look and what to buy.  During our one-one-one grocery shopping trips, I’ll help you find the healthiest options in each aisle. Yes, even the canned food aisle, the frozen aisle, and the cracker aisle!

Let’s go shopping together. It’ll be an adventure.

What you’ll get out of it

Maybe your doctor has recommended that you cut back on red meat, but you have no idea where else to get protein. Or maybe you’ve decided you want to eat more plant-based meals but don’t know how to do it in a kid-friendly, weeknight-quick way. Whatever your particular dietary needs, I’ll help you find the best, most delicious foods to optimize your health.

Some customized store tour examples include:

Whether you’re making dietary changes because of a health condition or because you just want to feel better in your body, I can help make the transition stress-free—and maybe even be a little bit fun.

You’ll learn to read and interpret food labels…

Gluten-free, 100% organic, non-GMO, local grown, pasteurized, cage free. These food labels and others contain information about how the food was grown or processed. You’ve seen them before, of course, but you may not know what they mean or how they affect your health. During your private shopping trip, I’ll teach you what the different food labels mean and which ones to pay special attention to, which ones are worth your time and money, and which ones to avoid.

You’ll also learn to read and interpret Nutrition Facts labels

Nutrition Facts labels on foods are designed to make it easy for you to make healthy choices in the grocery store. But they don’t really help much if you’re not sure how to interpret the information. What does 4 grams of protein even mean? And how much sodium is too much? I’ll help you learn to read and understand Nutrition Facts labels so you can be sure you’re getting the nutrients your body needs in every meal.

You’ll get some customized recipes

One of the keys to a successful grocery shopping trip is starting out with a plan. And that means knowing what you’re going to make with the foods you’re buying. When we go shopping together, we’ll be shopping for ingredients for specific recipes. Whether you’re hoping to modify some of your favorite recipes to meet your new dietary plan or you’re looking for brand new meal and snack ideas, I’ll have recipes and ingredients lists prepared ahead of time. This will help ensure an efficient and stress-free grocery shopping experience. It’ll also help ensure that you know what to do with the groceries when you get home.

Eating together is an option, too

place setting

Healthy eating isn’t just about what we put into our bodies. It’s also about the experience of eating. Many of us spend a huge portion of our lives in battle with food and with our bodies, often repeating unhealthy cycles of deprivation and overindulgence. These cycles distort our relationship with food and cause shame, anxiety, and guilt around eating. Learning to listen to our bodies is a key factor in reestablishing a healthy relationship with food.

With private, one-on-one meals focused on mindful, intuitive eating, I can help you reconnect with your body and the positive experience of nourishing it through the foods you eat. We’ll start simple. You’ll learn what to eat, when to start and stop eating, and how to pay attention to your body’s natural signals. Along the way, I’ll also give you tips and strategies for working through any anxiety that may arise in the process. The goal of our one-on-one meals is to help you feel good in your body and to heal your relationship with food.
